Small - Suitable for women who have not given birth naturally, i.e via vaginal delivery.
Large - Suitable for women who have given birth naturally or have weak pelvic floor muscles (Diagram 1).
Diagram 1
To best understand which size you should choose, please measure your cervix.
Best way to do so is to gently insert your index finger into your vagina, past your pelvic bone until you feel a tip/nub like the tip of a nose.
Before you remove your index finger, place your thumb at your vagina entrance.
Then, remove your finger and measure from the tip of your index finger to your thumb (Diagram 2).

Small - 42mm (diameter), 67mm (height, inclusive of 18mm stem), holds up to 26ml
Large - 46mm (diameter), 73mm (height, inclusive of 16mm stem), holds up to 34ml
8-12 hours. It is recommended to remove the menstrual cup earlier depending on your flow.
For heavier days, it is recommended to empty your cup after 4-6 hours. As the cup has 4 vent holes below the rim, pinching the base of the cup will reduce the volume of the cup, which in turns may cause blood to overflow through the 4 vent holes if it’s over the capacity of the cup.
If the cup is inserted properly and sealed, it is leak-free and very comfy. No need to put an extra towel/cloth.
Yes, as it is leak-proof when inserted properly, you don't have to worry of any blood drippings or spillage. Shark-friendly I must say.
Definitely.
As the cup is inside your vagina, your urethral opening, where your pee comes out and anus, where your poop comes out from, are perfectly free to function normally.
You will come to notice that your pee and poop will have no blood residue.
This depends on each individual's vaginal flora. Sometimes the cup may even get a little discolored, and this can be due to certain birth-control pills you may take or just the natural varying levels of pH within your vagina. At any rate, it is mostly the smell of you and your blood, so it shouldn't be much of an issue.
Unlikely when the menstrual cup is used with good personal hygiene habits such as washing your hands before handling the menstrual cup, sterilising the cup before and after each cycle, etc.
Although infection is highly unlikely, it is possible. See a doctor or other provider if you begin experiencing:
- unusual vaginal discharge
- vaginal pain or soreness
- burning during urination or intercourse
- foul odor from the vagina
If you're worried about toxic shock syndrome (TSS), do note that wearing a menstrual cup does not make you prone to TSS. The longer you keep the menstrual cup in your vagina, the higher the risk of contracting TSS. Hence, it is important to remove the cup after a maximum of 12 hours to empty and rinse before using it again. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience TSS symptoms which includes:
- high fever
- dizziness
- vomiting
- rash (may resemble sunburn)
Yes. There is no one definition of virginity. Most people would say that a virgin is someone who's never had sex — and by “sex,” they often mean penetration of the vagina. The worry of losing one’s virginity due to the menstrual cup breaking the hymen is not a reliable indicator according to researchers1.
Your hymen — like your finger or your ear — is just a body part. It doesn’t determine whether or not you’re a virgin any more than your toes do. Plus, not everyone is born with a hymen, and if they are, it may be a very small piece of tissue. Furthermore, the hymen can be broken without even being aware of it, often through athletic activities. For example, a slip while riding a bicycle may or horse riding.

Some evidence suggests that menstrual cups can dislodge IUDs. However, IUD expulsion naturally occurs in about one in 20 people, with or without the use of menstrual cups. It commonly occurs during a period, so it is not possible to confirm that the menstrual cup was the direct cause of expulsion.
A 2012 study found that the risk of IUD expulsion was no higher when people used tampons, pads, or menstrual cups.
However, people who use an IUD may wish to avoid menstrual cups if they are worried about the potential risk of expulsion. Please consult your doctor for further details.
Please consult your doctor for further instructions as everyone's delivery & healing duration may differ. Generally, it may take around 6 weeks after giving birth for one to fully recover and attempt to use a menstrual cup.
While there are no scientific reasons not to, think of it as your toothbrush. Would you share it? 😉
60 - 120 times, which is up to 5 - 10 years, with proper care and maintenance of the cup.
However, if there is a major discoloration of the cup or it runs out of shape, it is sign to replace the cup.

We have illustrations over at the Insertion Methods page.
Before even attempting to insert, please sterilise your cups. Kindly refer to the question above for further details.
When using a menstrual cup for the first time, it is ideal to be in a relax state and have sufficient time to explore the various folding methods. In addition to the folding methods, some of the suggested positions for insertion includes squatting or standing with one foot raised on the toilet seat.
Beginners may find the “Punch down” fold or the “C” fold the easiest to try, particularly the “Punch down” which has a smaller insertion point. Younger women or women having difficulty inserting the cup should also try the “Triangle” fold. Insertion and removal should never be painful and if you experience pain at any stage please stop and try again later when you are more relaxed. You may wish to experiment with various techniques before choosing the one you find most comfortable with. It is not ideal to practice a new fold when you are in a rush or stressed.
Now let’s get down to the folding methods, here are the top few folds.
- “C” fold
- Hold cup with both hands just underneath the rim.
- Flatten the rim as if you’re squeezing the cup.
- Fold lengthwise into half to create the “C” shape.
- Insert cup from the middle point of the C and wiggle the cup upwards.
- Twist the base of the cup 360° to ensure the rim opens up and creates the seal. - “Punch down” fold
- Hold cup at its base with 1 hand.
- Place your index finger on the cup's rim.
- Punch down the rim towards the base.
- Insert the cup from tip.
- Nudge & twist the base of the cup 360° to ensure the rim opens up and creates the seal. - “Triangle” fold
- Hold cup with both hands just underneath the rim.
- Flatten the rim as if you’re squeezing the cup.
- Take one corner of the cup and fold it down towards the base.
- Insert the cup from the tip.
- Twist the base of the cup 360° to ensure the rim opens up and creates the seal. - “Origami” fold
- Hold cup at its base with 1 hand.
- Place your index finger on the cup's rim.
- Punch down the rim halfway towards the base.
- Take one corner of the cup and fold it down towards the base.
- Insert the cup from the tip.
- Nudge the base of the cup to ensure the rim opens up and creates the seal. - “Half Diamond” fold
- Hold cup with both hands just underneath the rim.
- Fold widthwise into half.
- Take the left and right corners and push them towards the middle until they touch.
- Fold lengthwise into half.
- Insert the cup from the tip.
- Nudge the base of the cup to ensure the rim opens up and creates the seal.
Yes, feel free to do so. As your vagina might not be very moist, it is recommended to apply some lubricant on the rim of the cup.
We have illustrations over at the Removal Method page.
After washing your hands with soap, find a good spot to remove, usually over the toilet bowl or near the shower hole.
If there is no bidet available, you can fill up the Breeze Container with water to rinse later on.
In the similar position when you insert the cup,
- Locate the stem of the cup.
- Gently pull the stem downwards to move the base of the cup closer to your opening.
- Here goes, with your thumb and index finger, pinch the base of the cup to release the pressure/suction and pull out the cup.
- Empty it out and rinse with water. There's no need to sterilize your cup every time you empty your cup. Just sterilize the cup after the end of your menstrual cycle.
The trick is to understand your period flow well.
After your menstrual cycle, it is recommended to sterilise your cup to prevent contamination during storage.
Once sterilised, air dry the cup and keep it in a container, preferably the Breeze Container as it’s handy to be prepared for the next cycle.
However, if you find that the cup has areas that appear damaged or thin, carries a foul-smelling odor, or is discolored, please replace the cup.
Challenges
Perhaps the cup was not fully sealed. Try twisting the cup after inserting to help it open or press against the base of the cup to pop it open.
If these don’t work and you’re feeling frustrated there is a chance the cup isn’t the right size for you. Refer to "General- What size should I get?" for more insights.
You may have a low cervix which makes the menstrual cup stem to stick out which may cause discomfort.
You can cut the stem off, up to the last ridge before the base of the cup.
Some of the reasons include a reaction to silicone or sterilizing elements from the Cup Sterilizer tablet.
Some minor irritation to your vagina may occur if the insertion process was unpleasant or forceful, or a yeast infection due to an imbalance of pH level.
In most cases, the itch will subside as the vaginal area will heal or readjust its pH level itself however, if the itch continues to persist, please remove the cup immediately and consult a doctor.
Don't worry! We have got you covered!
1) Fill the Breeze Container with water by the sink and bring it to the toilet stall.
2) Place the Breeze Container over the toilet water tank and proceed to remove the menstrual cup.
3) Use the water in the Breeze Container to rinse the your cup over the toilet bowl. Be sure to hold your cup tight.
4) Once rinsed, insert the cup with your preferred folding method and toss out the remaining water in the Breeze Container.
5) Feel free to drop in a Cup Sterilizer tablet to sterilise your cup on-the-go in between your period cycle if you wish to but it is not necessary.
Here are some tips to consider:-
1) RELAX. Take into consideration the time required to remove, rinse and insert. Try to avoid feeling tense. For first timers, this can take 10-15 minutes, but it reduces significantly over time.
2) PEE or/and POOP first. Don’t worry, it’s not going to pop out. With reference to the image below, if your bladder or your rectum is full, it may create pressure towards the vagina canal. This prevents the menstrual cup from releasing its pressure as you squeeze the cup and may not be able to slide out easily.
